Jameson Volko Wins First Place

Jameson Volko is our patient and an outstanding gymnast on the Olympiad Gymnastics traveling team. At the meet in Fruitland, Maryland on December 8, Jameson won a whole bunch of medals, and a trophy for first place all-around in Level 4. She has also won countless other medals and trophies at other gymnastics meets. Way to go Jameson!

Jameson is also Kira’s classmate and one of her best friends.

Kira Competes at Her First Gymnastics Meet

Kira competed at her first gymnastics meet in a Fruitland, Maryland as part of the Olympiad Gymnastics team. She had a great time and is looking forward to competing again. Here she is with friends and teammates Laura Garyantes (left) and Jameson Volko (right). Jameson won a lot of medals and a trophy for first place in all around for level 4.

Dr. Mike’s brother Joe is a family lawyer by day whose office is in the second floor of the Wahl Building, but at night he often plays blues music at various venues around town. Here he is at the Hartefeld National Country Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania on Friday night November 29.

Brave Middle Schooler Tells Peers She’s Bald

Katarina Lucardie is an 11-year-old middle school student who is totally bald from alopecia areata. She has been wearing a wig to school for many years, but the wig irritated her scalp so she wanted to stop wearing her wig but didn’t know how to tell her classmates. She made a short documentary with her teachers to play for her classmates, who asked questions of her afterward. Many students cried while watching the documentary. The whole class is very supportive of her and many have told her she looks even better without her wig.

The New York Times featured a new study from the University of Pittsburgh published in The New England Journal of Medicine, which tracked the effects of vaccinations back to 1924, looking at disease trends from the 19th century until the present day. The study showed that more than 100 million cases of serious contagious diseases including polio, measles, rubella, mumps, hepatitis A, diphtheria and pertussis, and whooping cough have been prevented and possibly 3 to 4 million deaths.

At Thanksgiving, it is time to reflect on what we have to be thankful about. I am very thankful for the vaccinations my children and I have had.
