Pi = Pie Day at Brandywine Springs School

Toothy visited our patient Ms. Shannon Smith’s 6th grade math class at Brandywine Springs School where Dr. Mike’s daughter Kira is a student during Pie=Pi Day. Along with learning all about the mathematical concept of pi, the students were encouraged to bring all kinds of pie in.

The Cost of Chasing Cancer

There is an interesting article in Time about cancer screening and “Why excessive screening can cause unintended harm, stress and waste.”

As a surgeon, I’m trained to crush cancer. For many years, every tumor I palpated and family I counseled drove me to hunt for cancer with a vengeance, using every tool modern medicine has to offer. But recently, one patient reminded me that the quest to seek and destroy cancer can produce collateral damage.
